Clifton College has become one of the powerhouses of schools rugby in England. Old Cliftonians who have gone on to become household names include actors Trevor Howard and Simon Russell-Beale, comedian John Cleese, and GB Hockey player Lily Owsley, whose team won gold in the 2016 Olympic Games.
The rugby programme has grown and gone from strength to strength in recent years, and the increased quality of its fixture list is a testament to its growing reputation—2022 winners of the prestigious Merchiston Castle Festival in Scotland one of the recent triumphs.
Sport has always played a significant role in the development of every student that comes to Millfield. Home to nearly 60 international youth representatives at any one time and a small number of students go onto to compete at professional, Olympic or Paralympic level after they have left the school.

Northampton School for Boys has had a number of its former students go into professional rugby, including current England Captain Courtney Lawes, World Cup winner Steve Thompson, and Northampton Saints players such as Ollie Sleightholme and James Grayson.
Sedbergh’s success on the rugby fields has been built through an intensive and comprehensive development program. This program looks to develop talented and highly skilled rugby players who can play at the highest levels of school rugby and beyond.
Wellington College was one of the 21 founding members of the Rugby Football Union, and pupils at the school have historically played schoolboy rugby to the highest standard. In 2008, the College became the first school to win the Daily Mail Cup at both U15 and U18 levels.

The Whitgift sports programme allows students to develop their skills and become hardworking, honest team players. With 28 teams across the School ranging from A to F, Rugby at Whitgift offers all pupils, at all levels the experience to be well coached and have a challenging set of fixtures.
